The Iraq War began March 19, 2003, with an overwhelming show of American military might, described by the unforgettable phrase “shock and awe.” Within weeks, the United States achieved the primary objective of Operation Iraqi Freedom, as the military operation was called, ousting the regime of dictator Saddam Hussein.
Many Democrats were hesitant to protest the Iraq War due to fears of being labeled as unsupportive of the troops and the political consequences of opposing a popular president (George W. Bush).
I drew this cartoon the day the war began. It was published in the Deseret News the following day.
I have originals of many of the cartoons From the Vault for sale. Email me if you are interested in purchasing this one.
