In the old days, I drew my cartoons on Strathmore 2-ply bristol, using a Winsor-Newton sable brush dipped in India Ink. I used no color back then since newspapers were rarely printed in color. I still sketch out my cartoons with a digital non-photo blue pencil. Back then I used a real non-photo blue pencil for sketching. I find that Rebelle software more closely matches the “feel” of real-life, old-school cartooning.

The Political Desk
The Political Desk is where my editorial cartoons live. I found inspiration early on from the work of Pat Oliphant who once said, “The job of the political cartoonist is to make the comfortable uncomfortable.” That is my aim. (If politics is not your thing, my comic strip Analog or my New Yorker-style cartoons in The Gag File might be a better option for you).
